I’d love to do this, but I really don’t think I have it in me…
Believe it or not, this is a lot easier than you think! If it helps, think of all the money you’ll save when you’re not buying clothes. Set yourself a goal. Maybe you’ve got your eye on some really nice fabric, or perhaps you’re saving up for an awesome holiday. I find having a concrete goal really helps.
What about underwear/shoes/socks?
There are certain things you may not have the time to sew – and let’s face it, second-hand underwear is not the most palatable thing in the world. Underwear has never been part of my pledge and I’m still trying to find somewhere which does a half-decent pair of tights so I don’t need to keep buying them every time they snag. Start with the things you know you can give up easily and go from there.
I caved in and bought something! Should I carry on?
If you’re up for it, then yes! There’s no use in beating yourself up about it.
I just don’t have the time to sew…
Believe me, I know them feels. It may seem difficult, but try to set aside some time every day to sew. Even if it’s just cutting something out or interfacing a pattern piece – you’ll be amazed what 15 minutes a day of sewing can achieve. Also – remember, you can always buy second hand if you really need to.
