Hi! I’m Elena.

I won’t lie to you, I’m not the sharpest seamstress on the block – buttonholes are my enemy and I put off hemming for days. Despite having this skill, I’m always falling back on buying fast fashion on the high street. But it seems a shame to waste a perfectly good sewing machine, so I’m forcing myself to spend a year making my wardrobe. I’ve done it before, so it should be fine, right? Oh, except last time, I was a student with a lot of time on my hands. Now I have a full-time job. Gulp.

Where can you find my documentation of this mission? Well, here, of course – you’re already here so I guess you knew that already. I’m also on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram because I’m a shameless millennial grasping for your attention on any and all social platforms.

Fancy joining me in this self-made mission? Feel free to comment, email me or tweet me @elenacresci with your thoughts.

When I’m not spending quality time with my seam-ripper and getting pins stuck in my feet, I’m a journalist on Channel 4 News’ digital team.

I love your blog, what a brilliant pledge! I am planning to start making my own stuff as soon as I get a sewing machine. Look out, charity shops and vintage shops, here I come! I was wondering, with only a few weeks to go, what will be your first purchase from the shops? Not long now!
